ignite arrows is a fairly good attack skill and adds some of splash damage, and every little bit counts. the barbed trap for its piercing damage and bleeding time. (maxed its like 56piercing dmg bleed for 21 seconds). incendiary arrows to replace ignite arrows eventually.

using precision shot because i dont plan to be on the front lines, a decent replacement for powershot or point blank to add some extra damage. apply poison -> hunter's shot -> epidemic -> chaos storm; that chain of skills makes it obvious why i chose those skills. group annihilation (and great for individuals too of course). i chose chaos storm because there werent any other ranger skills that caught my eye (so far). since epidemic is unlinked you dont have to put any points into any mesmer attributes, and with that thinking, chaos storm will deal out 50 dmg AoE over 10 seconds.

Not every Ranger has to use barrage. And it appears he is intends using preperations, which won't work with Barrage.

I have a feeling you already know this, but just checking, you can only have 1 preperation going at a time. I did not see where you said you would have more than 1 up, just want to make sure you are aware.

about the preparations, i designed it with the idea that different creatures will be affected by poison and fire differently. i was already satisfied with the damage potential, so i went with a backup/safeguard.

* harbinger is not a fable reference, never played the game :P

personally, if you are using incendiary arrows, bin ignite arrows and take one more bow attack, maybe Dual shot, considering you are using preparations - it helps to lay down as many arrows as possible when using preps.
